General Purpose:

Under the direction of the Lead Wastewater Plant Operator, oversees daily wastewater operations; and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs daily sampling and maintenance of wastewater plant (mowing, trimming, cleaning, etc.)
  • Assists in daily operation of wastewater plant to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and codes.
  • Assists in development and maintenance of sewer system standards.
  • Reports any problems or abnormalities to Lead Operator.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of theory, principles, and techniques of municipal sewer maintenance functions.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local law, codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of computer and other office equipment to prepare necessary paperwork.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and integrate broad, comprehensive wastewater programs and activities.
  • Ability to analyze complex construction, engineering, and maintenance issues and problems, evaluate alternate solutions and develop sound conclusions, recommendations, and courses of action.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, explain, and apply local, state and federal law and regulations governing wastewater services.
  • Ability to develop clear, concise, and comprehensive technical reports, correspondences, and other written materials.
  • Ability to exercise sound, expert independent judgement within general policy guidelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with City staff, citizens and other governmental and regulatory officials, private and community organizations, developers, and others encountered in the course of work.

Training and Experience:

Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; or equivalent combination of training and experience.


Licenses, Certificates, Special Requirements:

Valid Florida Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.

Obtain the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator "C" License within 2 years from date of hire.

The employee is regularly required to perform strenuous manual labor under various weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information, and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or new skills; work under deadlines with constant interruptions; interact with City staff and other organizations; and may deal with dissatisfied or quarrelsome individuals.
