As a visiting faculty member, the Visiting Assistant Professor in Illustration will oversee, develop, and grow the illustration program, which includes teaching all levels of illustration course offerings, in both traditional and digital media, under the leadership of the Department of Art, Design, and Art History's chairperson. The faculty member will also work to develop online/remote offerings in Illustration as well as contribute to the broader programs of DADAH, including the foundations program, summer camps, and the advising, reviews, and programmatic assessments. Additional primary responsibilities include managing the drawing program, maintaining a sustained scholarly or creative profile, university and departmental service, and advising/mentoring students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
Teach the equivalent of 3 3-credit courses/semester, most in the Illustration curriculum, with occasional courses in other areas that serve the department or university (foundations, GCP, etc.)
Advise DADAH students, with particular focus on Illustration majors
Oversee, develop, and grow the Illustration program:
work with department chair to schedule courses
assist in management of computer labs and facilities as relevant
managing and evaluating illustration adjuncts
develop new courses and curriculum, including digital and remote opportunities as relevant
Manage the Drawing program
work with department chair to schedule courses
manage studio facilities
manage and evaluate drawing adjuncts
develop new courses and curriculum, including digital and remote opportunities as relevant
Participate in regular departmental reviews of students including entrance, ongoing, and end-of-program reviews
Perform service to the department and the university through committee work and other opportunities, which includes but is not limited to managing studio facilities; assisting in managing and evaluating illustration and drawing adjuncts; program assessments; outreach and promotion
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities*
Participate in departmental events
Develop remote teaching opportunities
Perform key recruiting, advising, and retention activities throughout the year
Participate in departmental summer camps

Minimum Qualifications
Proficiency in technologies relevant to the illustration field, such as Adobe Creative Suites, required.
MFA in Art
Proficiency in and ability to teach media, subject, and professional practice relevant to the illustration field required.
Familiarity with a Mac-based working environment is expected
Preferred Qualifications
MFA in Illustration
Prior university teaching in illustration and a record of professional/creative practice (exhibitions and publications) are strongly desired.
