Job Summary

Consults with faculty and students to define IT infrastructure operating requirements. Recommends computer software and hardware necessary to meet these operational requirements for research and instructional activities. Implement administration functions, security measures, backup and recovery procedures to IT infrastructure systems and application server components.

  • Works with faculty, students and staff to define computing operating requirements. Coordinates with vendors and suppliers of the software and hardware used by the computing center in managing deployment, implementation and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Configures computer software, hardware and support equipment necessary to meet operational requirements for research and instructional activities, as well as disaster recovery infrastructure and IT continuity operations for the College.
  • Manages the implementation, maintenance and backup pertaining to cloud computing systems, control programs and subsystems for Windows and UNIX environments.
  • Manages hardware and software license and maintenance contracts. Compiles and prepares computing assets operating reports.
  • Designs and implement security posture and hardening measures on Windows and UNIX servers for both physical and virtual environments, with policies tailored to the type of application hosted and in compliance with University standards.
  • Provides excellent customer service to faculty, students and staff as measured by initial response time and overall time taken to resolve the task. Assures consistent quality of service for instructional and research technology users. Facilitate means to enhance student/faculty interaction and effectiveness in the use of instructional and research computing resources.
  • Ensures the creation and maintenance of written educational and training materials including systems user manuals, license agreements, and documentation of applications or operating systems modifications and upgrades.
  • Attends workshops and conferences on the use of educational and researches technologies and provide feedback to faculty and researchers on the best practices that should be adopted. Pursue training that will improve skills needed to keep pace with emerging technologies.
  • Interacts with DoIT to better integrate campus wide initiative that affect students, faculty and researchers including student computing mandates, user account registration and campus software licensing.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience in IT Customer Service, IT Procurement, or related field. Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in Higher Education.
  • UNIX administration knowledge.
