- Rollingcrest Splash Pool – Hyattsville
- Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex - Brandywine
- Southern Regional Aquatic Wellness Center – Fort Washington
- Theresa Banks Memorial Aquatics Center – Glenarden
- Ellen E. Linson Splash Park– 5211 Campus Dr.; College Park, Maryland 20740
- Glenn Dale Splash Park - 11901 Glenn Dale Blvd.; Glenn Dale, Maryland 20769
- Hamilton Splash Park – 3901 Hamilton St.; Hyattsville, Maryland 20781

- North Barnaby Splash Park - 5000 Wheeler Rd.; Oxon Hill, Maryland 20745
- Ensures patron safety and to protect lives, including your own by implementing appropriate rescue, first aid and emergency procedures while providing excellent customer service.
- Enforces all rules and regulations as they relate to pool safety.
- Completes daily opening and closing duties, including cleaning the pool, deck, locker rooms/bathrooms and other assigned areas.
- Attends in-services, meetings, and all other required training.
- Secure a substitute for any scheduled hours/shifts that cannot be worked.
- Maintain required certification(s).
- Performs other related work duties and/or special projects as assigned
- Must have strong interpersonal skills and work well with the public and other staff.
- Communicates instructions in a professional and enthusiastic manner.
- Ability to establish a positive rapport by using tact and discretion with participants, parents, and staff.
- Must display a high degree of emotional maturity while keeping difficult situations in proper perspective.
- Deal effectively with the public both orally and through written/digital correspondence.
- Must be able to process information accurately.
- Maintain required certification(s).
To receive the FREE Lifeguard Training incentive, candidates must commit to working for the Department of Parks and Recreation at one of the hiring facilities listed above for at least 90 days.
Candidates must be at least 15 years of age to work for the Department.- Complete an online application via this job posting.
- Candidates MUST interview with a Facility Manager at one of the hiring facilities. Which may be conducted in-person or virtually.
- Complete the required American Red Cross Pre-course Skills assessment which includes successfully demonstrating the below skills:
- Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs (hands placed across chest under armpits)
- Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards then surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
- Surface and swim 20 yards on back, with both hands holding the object.
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
- Commit to working for the Department of Parks and Recreation at one of the hiring facilities listed above for at least 90 days.
The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel take over.
A complete background investigation will be completed prior to hiring.
Person(s) hired for this position must provide proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (with limited religious or medical exceptions).
