Regional EHS Manager Job at DS Smith

DS Smith Winchester, VA

DS Smith is a leading international supplier of paper-based packaging solutions for consumer products, e-commerce, promotion, transit and industrial applications. Our Roanoke, VA & Winchester, VA facilities specialize in making and providing corrugated packaging. We are looking for individuals who already have prior experience in the corrugate box manufacturing industry. The ideal candidate should have experience with the corrugate product. DS Smith is willing to cover relocation for a candidate with the right experience.

To drive and develop the health, safety, and environmental functions and culture across the region. Ensure both businesses have the right skills, processes, materials, information, and procedures to consistently meet legislative and internal requirements. Ensure high levels of engagement and visibility with all employees to support the drive to zero accidents. This position will be split 50/50 in Roanoke and Winchester, VA

Key Accountabilities

  • Works with employees and local leadership to drive continual improvement and routine management of the EHS program.
  • Manages EHS initiatives and Action Plans as required
  • Develops, facilitates, and ensures all training requirements are met
  • Maintains communication with local leadership and HSE Director
  • Ensures all incidents are investigated and action items are completed
  • Review, develop, and implement effective EHS policies, procedures, and standards such that they are legally compliant and meet Group requirements
  • Develops a mature Safety culture and ensures Safety Committees are effective and engaged
  • Reports data & KPI’s as required and on time.
  • Utilize Group Incident Reporting System (CERTUS)
  • Analyzes all data to reduce the risk and probability of LTA’s and environmental impacts in the work environment
  • Track and report environmental data
  • Participates as required in any strategic develop project opportunities
  • Actively participates in divisional EHS network (regular meetings, audits, and focus teams)

Financial Responsibility / Health and Safety

· Responsible for the Health and Safety budget

· Ensure sites adheres to latest Health and Safety legislation and all associated Group Policies, Procedures & Standards

Customers

· All personnel working or visiting the sites (including Contracting company personnel)

· EHS role is a key site contact with Division HSE Director

· External H&S regulatory bodies and relevant industry organizations

Education & Certifications

  • Candidate should have 5 years EHS experience in manufacturing work environments
  • ASP, CSP, CHMM or similar preferred but not required

Job Specific Technical Requirements

  • Experienced and robust EHS professional with strong leadership skills able to make a positive impact within a challenging & dynamic working environment.
  • Experience of maintaining, developing and implementing EHS Policies, Procedures and Standards, in a dynamic environment, to ensure compliance with the law and relevant regulations.
  • Effective planning & organizational skills. Confidence to challenge personnel when appropriate.
  • Provide EHS leadership and build strong relationships within a collaborative team working environment - able to clearly interpret & explain complex EHS issues (including behavioral safety), influence decisions and make things happen.
  • Lead and undertake any required EHS investigations and report, in a professional and timely manner, to relevant personnel or external organizations.
  • Ensure external regulatory bodies or organizations are informed of relevant EHS matters.

50% between Roanoke and Winchester facilities
