We are currently looking for an experienced, energetic, highly creative, and friendly individual to join our team! The cook is an integral position in our organization and plays a vital role in the daily health of our center. Our cook provides a safe, clean, healthy food service environment, prepares and delivers food on a timely basis, develops healthy menus in accordance with the policies and procedures as well as purchases and inventory food and materials needed to promote children’s health and well-being. This is a Monday through Friday position from 7:00 am-4:00 pm plus wonderful benefits

Qualifications:

• Must meet basic requirements of the Texas Department of Health and Human Services and other foodservice regulatory agencies
• Ability to relate positively to young children is essential
• Experience working with young children; preschool-setting experience is preferred
• Positive attitude, comfortable working in a team environment and ability to be flexible
• Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations

Chef Responsibilities:

• Maintains a keen awareness of children that have allergies and food restrictions. Offers substitute items to children who may be allergic or have other food restrictions.
• Ensures food service area and food is free of nuts, nut products or food items that have been processed in a facility that also processes nut products according to the policies and procedures of the school. Checks all food labels upon receipt to ensure compliance with this requirement.
• Follows the daily menu prepared in collaboration with or by the Director.
• Follows portion control standards for lunch and snacks in preparations.
• Ensures that each meal is ready to be served when scheduled.
• Inventory and order food as well as can calculate the amount needed.
• Maintains an orderly, clean, and safe kitchen area at all times, including the proper maintenance of equipment.
• Attends all required staff meetings, workshops, and/or school functions.
• Maintains overall professional personal appearance.
• Assists in other capacities that Director, or designee, determines is necessary, including but not limited to classroom support.

Other responsibilities include:

• Assisting with school sanitation procedures
• Providing bathroom breaks for teachers
• Other items as assigned by the management team
• Classroom hours as a classroom assistant teacher may be required on occasion: an assistant teacher (or “floater”) is responsible for helping the lead teacher care for and teach a group of children, working as a teacher

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
