Department Summary
The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the UNT System College of Pharmacy is located at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) in Fort Worth, ranked among the top 50 medical schools for seven consecutive years, the UNTHSC is a 33-acre graduate school located in the city’s Cultural District with a local economic impact of $500 million annually. The UNT System College of Pharmacy is the first pharmacy school in Texas located on an academic health science center campus.

Position Overview
The Postdoctoral Research Associate’s duties are related to research activities in developing polymeric and lipid nanoparticles for gene delivery applications to ocular disease and cancer, and validate them in vivo. Specific activities include material synthesis, characterization, in vitro cell work, animal handling, and tissue sample processing / analyses. They will also contribute to writing proposals and papers, while helping to maintain laboratory equipment, and may contribute to the training and supervision of students or any other assigned individuals. Daily, they will be performing technical procedures and experiments including utilizing specialized equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Appropriate doctoral degree. If the degree had not been conferred at the time applicant applied for a postdoc position, a letter needs to be attached from the school’s official Graduate Office and/or Registrar’s Office certifying that all requirements for the degree have been met and stating the degree conferral date.

Preferred Qualifications
Applicants should have proven experience in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, tissue/cell culture techniques, and small animal handling. Previous involvement in nanomedicine research is essential. Previous involvement in microfabrication and data science (machine learning) is preferred but not required.

Job Duties

o
Execute experiments independently, collect data and keep records of experiments, and keep up-to-date with the most recent literature in the field of study.

Perform technical procedures involved in execution of own experiments (i.e. Analyze experimental results of experimental protocols.)

Operates speecialized scientific equipment.

o
Performs statistical analyses, including selecting the appropriate analysis procedure, setting up data for analysis, judging validity and reliability of data, designing and writing programs to perform analyses, and producing written reports on the result of the analyses.

Write manuscripts and prepare materials for scientific presentations inside and outside.

o
Write research results for publication (i.e. Clearly summarize data for analysis, prepare needed figures for publication and participate in preparing revisions of manuscripts)

o
Presentation of project results to internal and external parties.

Provide knowledge and help with experiments as requested by graduate students.
