I’m Blake, a 37-year-old man with spinal muscular atrophy living in Byram, MS along with my younger brother, Matt, 34, who has the same condition.

We are looking for a Personal Care Assistant to work all of the following shifts:

• Thursday, 7:00am-6:00pm
• Friday, 7:00am-6:00pm
• Saturday, 7:00am-5:00pm
• Sunday, 7:00am-5:00pm

About the job

• $12 / hour
• It is an in-home position, not a facility. My brother and I are the only clients.
• You will be employed and paid by the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS).
• There are opportunities to make extra, which I pay out-of-pocket.
• We provide free coffee and wifi.

Responsibilities of the position
The following is a summary of the main things we need help with.

• Bathing and dressing
• Help with meals and feeding
• Light housework, mainly our laundry and keeping our areas clean
• Repositioning/pressure relief
• Personal hygiene

• Matt and I are website developers.
• We use power wheelchairs to get around.
• We have spinal muscular atrophy type 2. This means our muscles are extremely weak. We need help to do most things, which is why we are hiring.
• We have equipment for transferring in and out of our chairs that’s easy to use.
• We live at home with our mother. You would be giving her a much-needed break.
