- (3224569)The Internal Communications Program Manager is responsible for supporting the objectives of Nantucket Cottage Hospital and Mass General Brigham by managing implementation of internal communications efforts and strategy for the system.
In this role, the Program Manager will be responsible for providing communications strategies, plans and campaigns to support a world-class brand and reputation, engage employees and help deliver on the system’s mission of caring for patients and the workforce. The Program Manager will employ best-practice communications and content strategies that advance thought leadership and strategic priorities across communication vehicles.
This role will translate important content and material into clear and compelling internal messages and campaigns and leverage a range of communications channels to deliver messages most effectively to different audiences across our system.
This position will work in close collaboration with the transformation communications team to support execution of a comprehensive transformation communications strategy.
The individual is to demonstrate expertise in the field of communications and foster an environment in which leading-edge developments and best practices in communications are explored, adopted, and adapted for Mass General Brigham. Proactively leads continuous improvement and demonstrates willingness and ability to manage change cross functionally. Champions continuous interation of best practice and continuous improvement in functional area’s process and plans. Conducts annual planning and has a keen understanding of external environment, target audiences and business needs to develop and measure strategic communications plans, as well as supporting processes and systems. Coordinates and collaborates extensively across the department and organization to ensure positive results.
Strong, multi-faceted communication skills and relationship building skills are critical to the success of the person in this role.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Confidentiality at the highest level is required to serve in this position. Incumbent maintains confidentiality of patient, hospital and staff information in accordance with Hospital policy and applicable statutes and regulations. Because of the sensitive nature of this position, incumbent agrees to maintain this confidentiality under all circumstances.
- Commitment to onsite work arrangement.
- Manage internal communications strategies for Nantucket Cottage Hospital and Mass General Brigham to support world-class brand and reputation, engage employees and help deliver on the system’s mission of caring for patients and the workforce.
- Partner with the President of NCH and hospital leadership to lead and support the development and implementation of a local hospital communications strategy to increase engagement among leaders and employees.
- Be the onsite, “go-to” communications leader for the NCH President, including the development of compelling written communications, including talking points, FAQs, presentations, etc. in support of strategic initiatives as it relates to NCH and the Mass General Brigham system.
- Draft and execute internal strategic communications plans for areas of responsibility that drive awareness, support and engagement of systemwide and NCH initiatives in the areas of community health, health equity, patient experience and other clinical areas.
- Cultivate collaboration among internal and external communications teams through developing and refining processes for content and story sharing.
- Collaborate with communications colleagues from across the system to amplify messages, as needed.
- Partner with the Development team, playing a key role in fundraising communications, including editing of letters/outreach, assisting with events and photography.
- Collaborates directly with Mass General Brigham’s External Communications team to support media inquiries/requests.
- Serves as the local Public Information Officer, in collaboration with the Mass General Brigham External Communications Team.
- Support development of strategy and maintain ongoing editorial calendar and messaging platform for key NCH strategic iniatives to advance though leadership and strategic priorities across employee communication vehicles.
- Establish guidelines and processes that ensure communications and plans are of the highest caliber and effectively represent the Mass General Brigham brand.
- Responsible for escalating internal messages for final review by the senior director.
- Establish and track key performance indicators to accurately measure internal communications progress, and to measure the use of all managers as key communicators.
- Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director, Internal Communications, Mass General Brigham Community Hospitals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in English, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or a related communications/technology field.
- Minimum of 5 years of marketing and communications experience.
- Deep knowledge and relationship-building within Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
- Demonstrated strong writing including the ability to write original material effectively, clearly and quickly, and edit material for tone, grammar and punctuation.
- Experience in a range of marketing and communications functions including employee communications, email marketing systems and web design/development or management of websites, including intranet.
- Experience managing and motivating team members, as appropriate.
- Experience with web content management systems, video, and video editing skills a plus.

- A solid understanding of how communication vehicles support employee engagement efforts and strategic communications.

- Innovative mindset and able to research the latest trends, tools and apps to build employee engagement.
- Strong proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to understand and communicate complex ideas, including problem-solving skills necessary to gather and interpret data and to diagnose needs.
- Advanced interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively as a part of multiple teams/projects/initiatives.
- Strong problem solving and negotiation skills.
- Ability to effectively conduct meetings, both formal and informal.
- Excellent project planning and organizational skills, and the ability to assist with developing communication programs and logistics involving great detail.
- The ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Requires minimal direction from leadership and possesses the ability to learn quickly.
Supervisory Resonsibilities:
- This role does not have direct reports.
Fiscal Responsibility:
- This role does not have direct budgetary responsibility.
- Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham resources.
Working Conditions:
- Possible local travel to Mass General Brigham Headquarters/ Hospital sites.
- Monday to Friday, occasional weekends and extended hours.
- Role performed onsite at Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
