Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an individual to support and manage the implementation of Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) program within the US West region. The position will be based out of one of our offices in the US West region, preferably in Southern California or the Southwest. Under the direction of the Director HSSE Operations – United States, the Health, Safety, Security & Environment Manager, US West will support and manage the day-to-day operations of the HSSE Program within the Region.

Key Responsibilities

The regional Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Manager will provide a full range of HSSE services:

  • Support operations and office staff to be compliant with Stantec’s HSSE systems including the HSSE Program Manual and Safe Work Practices, as well as local legislation
  • Assist with pre-project planning and execution (e.g., project specific health and safety plans, hazard assessments etc.)
  • Conduct field assessments, planned job observations and worksite inspections (which may require overnight travel)
  • Promote HSSE within the Region with the goal of continuous improvement of HSSE culture
  • Coordinate and provide HSSE advice and direction to operational and office staff
  • Support the HSSE Incident Management System within the region

+ Support incoming incident reports, ensuring follow-up is completed with supervisors and employees and documented as required

+ Conduct investigations as required under the direction of the Director HSSE Operations – United States

+ Assist in the development of lessons learned in conjunction with incident investigations

  • Support the application of the internal ergonomic program for offices
  • Support the subcontractor management program, coordinating, and conducting contractor prequalification assessments as required
  • Assist with Regional ISO 14001 (International Standards Organization) and ISO 45001 Framework audits
  • Organize events to promote Health and Safety (may include Lunch and Learns, Health and Safety Week initiatives etc.)
  • Provide HSSE guidance and direction to Office Safety and Environment Coordinators (OSECs) and Site Safety Officers (SSOs)
  • Provide statistics and analysis of leading and lagging HSSE information to leadership as required or requested
  • Provide direct supervision to the HSSE Advisor(s) within the region
  • 25% travel is anticipated

Qualifications

Your Capabilities & Credentials

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • Experience in the consulting, construction, energy, or transportation industry is an asset
  • A Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation (candidates in the process of obtaining a CSP designation will be considered)
  • Knowledge of Cal-OSHA and Federal OSHA legislation
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities, coupled with an ability to work in a team atmosphere
  • Strong leadership skills and the capability to assess priorities and work independently
  • Computer proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Valid passport and ability to travel cross-border is preferred.

Education & Experience

  • A degree or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or in a related field
  • Ten (10) years of relevant field work experience in an HSSE role
