Position Summary
Buena Vista Health and Recovery Centers is a growing, state of the art healthcare recovery center with multiple locations. We are currently seeking a Charge Nurse to join our team of passionate healthcare professionals at our Tucson, AZ Campus.
The Charge Nurse will work as part of the nursing and integrated care team with physicians, other nurses, and healthcare professionals to provide care, monitor health conditions, plan long/short term care needs, administer medicine, use medical equipment, and advise patients and their families on illness, care, and continued care after their stay.

Duties and Responsibilities*

  • Assigned to patient load and patient care management while leading designated shifts
  • Leads assigned shifts/processes of nursing staff and monitoring their needs while working the patient floor
  • Leads designated shifts and hand-off meetings at the beginning and end of shift for continuity of care and effective communication
  • Coordinates assigned shift daily administrative duties, including schedules, nursing assignments and patient care in conjunction with the Campus Director of Nursing
  • Oversees assigned shift patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Mentors and trains new staff and provides support and guidance to all staff members
  • Liaises with doctors, behavioral health professionals, administrators and communicates any protocol changes to staff
  • Ensures compliance with all health and safety regulations
  • Records and maintains accurate reports
  • Completes medical patient intake process and documents results in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system in a timely and accurate manner
  • Follows physician orders for patient care, medication administration, and treatment protocols
  • Monitors patient progress and vitals based on treatment protocols to ensure patient progress and safety and charting patient care in patient and department charts in EMR system
  • Responsible for accurate and timely communication of all nursing and medical supply needs to Nursing Director
  • Addresses the physical effects of addiction and administers treatments to ease the symptoms so patients can concentrate on breaking their addictions
  • Provides advocacy as needed to ensure patient knows and understands their rights and ensures patient informed consent
  • Understands patient care goals as voiced by the patient, making the patient a major part of his treatment and recovery
  • Works closely with Integrated Healthcare Team to ensure timely services and quality of care is delivered

Minimum Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Associate degree in Nursing
  • Active Arizona Nursing License
  • Current First Aid/CPR/CPI certifications and Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or ability to obtain
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and PII security requirements
  • Strong nursing skills and holistic health knowledge
  • Advanced listening and assessment skills
  • Strong communication skills for one-to-one intervention
  • Must provide a healing environment, not one of moral judgment, when dealing with the patients
  • Exemplary motivational interview and listening skills
  • Interpersonal and group communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to maintain a positive collaborative relationship among staff
  • Critical thinking and shared decision-making ensuring protection of patient’s self-determination
  • Ability to work on a multidisciplinary team to discuss, assess and resolve patient problems, yet able to work independently
  • Maintenance of up-to date nursing education, including knowledge of Internet resources for those with substance abuse
  • Knowledge of 12-step and other recovery principles

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • 2+ years of experience in addiction & recovery and/or psychiatric nursing
  • CARN or CARN-AP
