This position will be key in supporting existing applications and financial solutions as well as assisting in leading the development of new SQL/BI Development to solve business problems. You will be challenged to assume accountability for designing and developing SQL queries and publishing, working with key business contacts, that reduce the amount of time spent on administrative tasks as well as the time taken to analyze data. This will require you to, among other things, solve problems creatively, liaise with subject matter experts, lead conversations with key stakeholders, and work with internal technologies to build these tools. The Associate Director/Director, Financial Innovations - Data contributes to the achievement of overall business goals to increase utilization and decrease time spent trying to get data-driven insights from large datasets and across multiple systems. Works cross-functionally with all pieces of the organization to provide solutions using PPD’s data lake and BI solutions.

  • Leads a team that writes, tests, and executes SQL queries within the organization’s data lake against cross-system data.
  • Manages the performance of tests on functionality that has been delivered and identifies possible issues, raises bugs appropriately, and drives completion of development with as minimal issues as possible.
  • Works with data across the organization to consolidate and manage the creation of finance-related KPIs, driving best practices in master data management through the team.
  • Contributes to and participates in daily and weekly update calls with key stakeholders and both vendor and internal development teams.
  • Ensures accuracy of backlog descriptions and requirements for new projects. Tracks team projects and drives compliance with project updates and timelines.
  • Coordinate with internal and external developers, key stakeholders, and project leadership on value-driven changes or initiatives being managed.
  • Performs review of SQL code written by federated finance data users and works with managers to drive those scripts to production in a timely manner.
  • Makes recommendations for code and process improvements and participates in special projects as assigned.
  • Manages the daily work of direct reports and appropriately assesses project progress to identify opportunities for improvement within the team.
  • Reviews project progress and assists with needed activities to drive work towards difficult deadlines.

Job Qualification

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic/vocational qualification

Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 6 to 9 years).

Years of experience refers to typical years of related experience needed to gain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. Years of experience are not to be used as the only determining factor in establishing the job class or making employment selection decisions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for analysis and presentation of data
  • Advanced level of skill in working with databases (SQL, ETL, etc.)
  • Advanced level of skill in Data Visualization techniques and software (BI Software) including but not limited to:
    • Power BI
    • Spotfire
    • Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC)
    • Excel PivotTables/Charts
  • Solid understanding of accounting/financial principles and regulations/legal requirements
  • Ability to function as an effective and respected partner to internal clients
  • Confidence to handle sensitive information and make sound recommendations
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks while still delivering high-quality results
  • Good analytical and quantitative skills and ability to handle data effectively
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and project administration skills
  • Experience in managing multi-level teams and driving performance through a matrixed organization.
  • Additional preferred skills:
    • SQL - expert
    • Previous use of Snowflake IDE or similar SQL development environment
    • Prior experience in support of internal systems
    • Exposure to Snowflake or other cloud-based data lake software
    • Exposure to data stewardship practices and/or software
