Young Life in Federal Way, Washington (FWYL) is seeking a self-motivated, goal-oriented, compassionate YoungLives coordinator who is energized by working with a diverse population of adults and teenagers in the Federal Way community. This position includes recruiting, mentoring and developing others in their relationships with Jesus and ministry to others. This ministry is currently rebuilding but has a recent history before the pandemic of reaching 15+ teen moms, plus five leader/mentors and multiple childcare and adult helpers. In addition, FWYL is building a "church partnership" with a local congregation to champion behind this amazing ministry as well!

The area has a long history of Young Life and support from the community. YoungLives is connected to the larger area, which includes WyldLife (middle school), Young Life (high school), and Capernaum (kids with disabilities) ministries. Federal Way is the most diverse school district in the state of Washington and increasing in size year-after-year.

This is a perfect opportunity for an individual looking to see and experience the impact of a supportive area while developing a ministry. The individual should enjoy working with a team but also have the ability to work independently. This position, area and region also offers opportunities for personal and professional development and growth.

Responsibilities:

Leader-Mentors and Volunteers

  • Recruit, train, mobilize and retain mentors, childcare and other volunteers.
  • Supervise and evaluate volunteers in leadership development, spiritual formation and ministry with teen moms.
  • Meet monthly with the volunteer team for on-going training, ministry planning and community building.

The 5 C's

  • Contact Work: Create an effective contact work strategy to reach teen moms and train others to engage in the lives and world of teen moms.
  • Club: Plan and implement club twice/month. Train and engage the team in leading club. Ensure that YoungLives health and safety policies are executed.
  • Campaigners and Discipleship: With your team, create and enact an effective discipleship strategy for teen moms.
  • Camp: Partner with the respective area director and regional coordinator to plan and implement a summer camping strategy for YoungLives. Recruit childcare workers for summer camp. Create and implement a prayer strategy for camp.
  • Committee: Regularly communicate and participate with the local Young Life committee.

Financial Resources and Management

  • Partner with the area director and committee to impart vision for the YoungLives ministry to potential donors.
  • Raise ministry funds to supplement camp and training needs as determined by the supervisor.
  • Ensure that all Young Life financial policies and procedures are implemented.
  • Work with the area director and regional coordinator to determine the annual budget.

Staff Administration and Development

  • Ensure the administrative requirements are handled with excellence and in a timely manner.
  • Comply with volunteer management procedures concerning YoungLives volunteers.
  • Flexible schedule with required staff meetings. Some evenings and weekends required for ministry events, meetings and fundraisers.
  • On average, one day/month for ongoing training, development and possible annual out-of-town training with Young Life.
  • Regular check-ins for support from the regional YoungLives coordinator.

Community Outreach

  • Speak to civic and church groups to promote and publicize YoungLives.
  • Develop relationships with schools, teen parenting programs, crisis pregnancy centers and other applicable community organizations.

Qualifications:

  • College degree preferred but not required.
  • Commitment to a growing relationship with Christ.
  • Ability to clearly communicate the Gospel and train others accordingly.
  • Ability to clearly communicate Young Life’s mission and the vision for YoungLives.
  • Understand the unique issues faced by pregnant and parenting teen moms.
  • Proven relational skills with both adolescents and adults.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Goal-oriented.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel as the job requires.
