Abington Friends Upper School seeks a full time Upper School English teacher to join the Faculty as a long term substitute for January -April 2023. For this position, the Upper School seeks a thoughtful, experienced, and collaborative educator who is comfortable working in a writing intensive program in a wide array of genres. The teacher needs to feel comfortable working with high school students one-on-one and managing a classroom of diverse learners.
The position will teach three sections of English consisting of one 9th grade English section and two sections of the Creative Writing elective for 11th and 12th grade.
In addition, AFS seeks candidates with:

Experience teaching in the high school setting -
A BA in English Literature or a related field, Masters preferred

A demonstrated interest in writing and the revision process

A broad range of experience with literature from a variety of social contexts

A comfort teaching a world-literature curriculum
-
A familiarity with a Quaker education community

An ability to work in a multi-genre reading and writing intensive program

A willingness to work in a highly collaborative department

A willingness to meet and collaborate with students outside of classroom hours

A comfort working with and appreciation of adolescents as learners and individuals

Extracurricular and coaching experience a plus
