Job Summary:
This position is the entry level before an employee is accepted into the Certified Nursing Assistant training program provided by the Oneida Health Extended Care Facility. This is a paid position and a pre-requirement before entering into the C. N. A. training program. The purpose of the Unit Helper experience prior to entering into the training Program so the employee can fully understand the requirements, expectations of the certified nursing assistant and a better introduction into the role and pace of the position.
Job Knowledge and Role Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of age specifics developmental factors specific to the adult geriatric residents (i.e. physical, cognitive, and socialization in planning delivery of care.)
- Completes all General Orientation
- Demonstrates ability to adjust to changes in units/shifts assignments to meet the needs of the resident and facility.
- Demonstrates knowledge and compliance with Commitment to Patients/Residents and Commitment to Co-Workers
- Employee is educated and adheres to:
- Resident Rights
- HIPAA
- Educated on Resident Abuse Reporting Law
- Participates as assigned with the orientation of new employees.
- Demonstrates a positive, helpful and professional attitude.
- Knowledgeable in role in Fire and Disaster Drills
Resident Unit Responsibilities:
- Makes unoccupied beds.
- Transports residents to and from dining rooms and other Activities in their wheelchairs.
- Cares and cleans the resident rooms, washes Mechanical Lift equipment during the shift.
- Assists in the Dining rooms to clear the tables after Intake and consumption of total consumptions of meals and liquids have been documented by the nursing staff.
- Stocks gloves and plastic bags in resident rooms, bathrooms and the shower rooms.
- Walks behind the nursing staff pushing resident’s wheelchair while the Certified Nursing Assistants and nurses are walking the residents.
- Assists on units to read to residents, plays cards and spend the time with residents.
- Remove soiled linen to from rooms and shower areas to Laundry chutes.
- Wash wheelchairs when necessary.
Resident Care Responsibilities- Infection Control:
- Demonstrates Knowledge and implements of Universal Precautions
- Hand Hygiene between resident contacts as appropriate
- Gloves when handling soiled linen, proper glove removal and hand hygiene.
- Safe disposal of wastes
- Demonstrates ability to practice precautions when caring for and cleaning resident rooms and equipment.
Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or GED
