TPWD MISSION

To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


This State Park is one of the top bird watching destinations in the country and a magnet for eco-tourists. This position helps to welcome both tourists and first-time local visitors and set a positive tone for their state park experience.


Under the direction of the Office Manager/Team Leader, this position performs entry-level customer service work. Work involves general clerical duties and providing customer service and information to the public for Estero Llano Grande State Park. Duties include but are not limited to, assisting with the daily operations of revenue collection and accounting, permit sales, automated registration and reservation of visitors. Provides quality customer service, answers telephones, and provides information and assistance to the general public. Prepares correspondence and reports. Assists in performing and maintaining inventory of concession items for retail sales. Performs general cleaning of park headquarters. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience:

One year experience in general clerical, cash handling, or customer service.

Licensure:

If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid State driver’s license.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

Two years experience in accounting, typing, filing, recordkeeping, data entry, word processing, and spreadsheet software;

Bilingual in English and Spanish.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of office practices and administrative procedures;

Knowledge of basic mathematics;

Knowledge of telephone procedures and etiquette;

Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook;

Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

Skill in using standard office equipment;

Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

Skill in general routine office cleaning;

Skill in basic report writing for completing various daily and weekly reports;

Ability to accurately handle cash and account for revenue collected;

Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;

Ability to work as a member of a team;

Ability to work under stressful conditions;

Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities;

Ability to accurately follow instructions;

Ability to maintain confidentiality;

Ability to maintain basic records;

Ability to learn on-line registration system;

Ability to learn new software applications;

Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 20 lbs.;

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with the TPWD safety program.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;

Required to adjust to changing schedules;

May be required to operate a State vehicle;

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures;

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
