We are seeking a talented Technical Writer to join our team. As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining technical documentation, including user manuals, installation guides, release notes, and online help systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent writing skills, and the ability to explain complex information clearly and concisely.


Summary Objective:

The technical writer effectively uses document templates and information architecture strategies to maximize readability and usability. Researches and evaluates new documentation tools and methods, documents, and recommends improvements to the documentation processes. Maintains a high level of technical expertise using a variety of word processing, layout/design, and document management. Wide degree of creativity and latitude is necessary. Expected to keep proprietary information confidential.


Essential Functions:

  • Create, edit, compile, and maintain various types of documentation.
  • Design and edit documentation formats, content, grammar, and semantics.
  • Edit digital images and figures to be integrated into documents and technical specifications.
  • Support quality assurance efforts in documentation delivery as well as assembling documentation for audits and ensuring that documentation is accurate and consistent with, guides, policies, and practice
  • Maintain documentation standards and keep abreast of current information by reviewing professional publications, newsletters, e-mails, and websites.
  • Collaborate with engineering and management to collect and interpret technical requirements, test plans, management plans, processes, and procedures before documentation.
  • Keep readability for appropriate audiences at the forefront of all documentation considerations
  • Gather customer feedback on documentation to improve usability.
  • Successfully adapt to fast-paced and evolving projects and document deadlines
  • Delivering draft regulatory documents at the request of prime partners and customers
  • Collaborate with technical professionals throughout the writing, editing, and publication stages of written products.
  • Publish and maintain templates for written documentation produced by others (technical specifications, RFP responses, etc.), ensuring a consistent "look and feel."
  • Providing technical editing and support, with an understanding of maps, schematics, transportation systems, traffic flow, and industrial planning
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and tracking documentation work to meet product release dates and client deliverables.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Must be able to read and write English in administrative, business, and technical settings effectively and fluently
  • Ability to maintain professional customer relations and deal effectively with government sponsors, Local, Regional, and State level customers, management, and peers
  • Strong experience owning an end-to-end documentation creation process
  • Ability to work independently with strong initiative and work ethic
  • Beginner to Intermediate skills in MS Office suite applications
  • User-level skills in MS SharePoint
  • Use document formats and layouts with MS Office and Adobe In-Design
  • Ability to integrate graphic design into the technical document planning process, producing documents that are focused on readability and usability.
  • Ability to take highly technical and complex ideas and processes and convey them in a way that is easy for the average reader to understand.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical information and documents such as management plans, software development plans, instructions, procedure manuals, and other technical specifications and drawings.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with a logical approach to establishing and maintaining document traceability

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in English, Technical Writing, or a related technical field
  • Two (2) + years of experience in technical writing, specification development/review in a technical environment
  • Post-high school technical courses in higher education plus experience in a related technical field will be considered

Preferred Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, or a related field.
  • Three (3) + years of experience in technical writing for software development and engineering.

Work Environment

  • The work environment will be a typical office setting inside a building.
