Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Sustainable Energy Consultant located at the Columbus General Office in Columbus, NE, Kearney Operations Centerm in Kearney, NE, Norfolk Operations Center in Norfolk, NE, or the York Operations Center in York, NE. Position closes December 20, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
Position Summary
The Incumbent meets and communicates regularly with Wholesale Customers, NPPD Retail, and Industry Executives to provide, support, and facilitate the delivery of value-added energy-related services (including renewable energy, energy efficiency, beneficial electrification and emerging electro-technologies) and information in support of the customers' operations as it relates to residential, commercial, and industrial business sectors.
Education, Training and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 10 years of energy-related services experience.
OR
Associate's degree in an electrical, electrical utility, or related field of study with 15 years of energy-related services experience.
Required years of experience may be reduced if the applicant holds a Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or another discipline.
Prior related experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: Manufacturing processes, compressed air, refrigeration, application of lighting, HVAC, motors, including variable frequency drives, energy efficient equipment application, or technical sales (i.e. sales of energy-related products), and/or front-line customer service directly related to these areas.
Professional level customer service is preferred. Proven program leadership/management with history of successful efficiency program results is required.
Recent experience in renewable energy (wind and/or solar generation), beneficial electrification, emerging electro-technologies is preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred. Certified Energy Manager may be considered in absence of PE. Incumbent will have one year from the date of hire to obtain and maintain CEM.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Incumbent actively supports Wholesale Customers and Retail Customers with energy-related services and increased focus on energy efficiency. Services provided include energy and energy cost related analyses, power quality, power factor, audits, rate comparisons, energy efficient product promotion, lighting system analyses, conservation on demand management, building energy conservation recommendations, reliability analyses and corrective actions, engineering and technical support for GeoEnergy, energy monitoring, energy information analyses, energy conservation, energy efficiency and beneficial electrification programs.
Continue to develop technical knowledge and proactively promote energy efficiency, beneficial electrification, renewable energy and emerging electro-technologies. Utilize reporting tools to monitor performance (activity and results) as well as assist wholesale customers with with Energy Wise incentives and administrative reports.
Develop relationships with key external business partners (dealers, builders, contractors, etc.) and actively promote energy efficiency and beneficial electrification improvements that are in the best interest of the end-use customer. Develop relationships with key industry and business associations and develop alliances with vendors to leverage the services that can be provided to Wholesale Customers, NPPD Retail and their end-use customers.
Serve as the expert contact on industrial processes and technology resources (e.g. Demand, Energy, Power Factor, Microwave Drying/Curing, Variable Frequency Motor Drives, Compressed Air utilization, Smelting, High Speed Extrusion, , Energy Monitoring and Information, etc.), including latest research trends.
Serve as a trusted energy partner for Wholesale Customers, NPPD Retail and their largest industrial customers. Interface with state and federal agencies and trade associations (which includes but is not limited to: Department of Energy, Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy, Electric Power Research Institute, American Public Power Association and Smart Electric Power Alliance) to complete reports (including the EIA Form 861) and collaborate on projects with the University of Nebraska- Lincoln Industrial Assessment Center
Provide assistance on sustainable energy technologies initiatives for the District, such as photovoltaic, energy storage and electric transportation.

Core Competencies
Pay Grade - 15 Monthly
Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $8,298.00 - $10,580.00
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
