Driscoll Children's Hospital Rio Grande Valley has an exciting employment opportunity for a Sterile Processing Manager. The anticipated opening of the facility is scheduled for Fall 2023.
This position may involve some travel to the Driscoll Children's Hospital main campus in Corpus Christi for training. It is essential to participate in the preparation of processes and protocols for opening day.
General Purpose of Job:
Responsible for maintaining supplies, equipment and inventory to support current and new surgical services lines. Coordinates processes with sterile processing personnel and operating room staff to provide instruments and supplies for use in a safe and timely manner to meet surgical and other patient care needs within the hospital. The sterile supply shift leader is accountable to the Surgical Service Director within the framework of Driscoll Children’s Hospital Integrity Program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and customer service.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Break down and decontaminate instruments following procedure according to protocols.
  • Set up trays and prepare for sterilization.
  • Sterilize instruments and supplies according to Operating Room, Central Processing and manufacturer protocols and standards.
  • Prepares packages and autoclaves items in accordance with standard policies.
  • Monitors sterilization process and maintains daily, permanent record of sterilization parameters according to hospital protocols and local, state, AAMI, AORN and IAHCSMM. Standards.
  • Responsible for biological testing, quality control, quality improvement and ensuring national standards.
  • Operate sterilizing and decontamination units using different agents to include steam, hydrogen peroxide, paracetic acid and glutaraldehyde.
  • Maintains a clean environment by following daily cleaning protocol.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and instruments.
  • Prepares and issues stock in accordance with the department
  • Orients and mentors new and existing staff members.
  • Evaluate all SPD staff members.
  • Work closely with the OR Clinical Material Control assistant.
  • Maintain all Capital equipment purchase requisitions.
  • Maintain preference cards.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Associates degree in related field - BA/BS preferred
  • At least 5 years hospital experience working in the care of instruments, equipment and supplies
  • At least 2 of those years in a supervisory role
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.
  • Certification CBSPD Certification Board for sterile processing and Distribution Supervisor
  • Certified CRCST; member of ISHCSMM International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management.
