Position Summary/Essential Duties:
The Sterile Processing Education Coordinator position is responsible for department orientation, certification preparation and facilitating continuing education of all Central Sterile Processing staff within their assigned area.
This role will also manage the department quality assurance initiatives of establishing and conducting regular audits of sterile processing functions to maintain safe, effective services.
Specific job duties include:
Performs initial orientation and on-boarding of new staff to all department protocols.
Assures all staff complete yearly competency requirements and maintain records of each individual.
Provides instruction to assist uncertified staff to successfully prepare for certification attainment.
Demonstrates work related tasks and monitors all uncertified staff to display best practices and ensure all sterile products are prepared safety for patient use.
Coordinates and plans continuing education opportunities to ensure certified staff maintain respective certification and knowledge of safe sterile processing.
Develops and performs department quality assurance program to ensure sterile products are safe for patient use.
Reports policy and procedure issues according to industry and entity regulations to Manager for resolution.
Responsible for ensuring adherence to all JC, CMS, OSHA and AMMI regulations.
Assists in routine performance review evaluations, training and team development.
Initiates and maintains positive relationships with management, patients, co-workers and customers.
Assists Manager to maintain departmental performance standards.
Maintains positive relationships with patients, customers, and co-workers
Participates as a productive member of the perioperative processing team
Qualifications
Education:
High school graduate or GED required. Graduate of a Sterile Processing program preferred.
Required Credentials, License, and / or Certifications:
National or International Sterile Processing Certification Required.
Experience & Knowledge:
Four (4) years’ experience in a hospital sterile processing environment. Previous coordinator experience preferred. Demonstrates effective communication skills and basic knowledge of AAMI ST79 Standards.
Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:
Preferred: Steam, Plasma, Peracetic Acid, and liquid sterilants.
Working Knowledge of: Equipment, sterilizers, washers, instruments, and tray assembly.
Special Skills: Good manual dexterity, attention to details
