Staff Accountant Job at Housing Connect
The Staff Accountant works within the Accounting Department and contributes to Housing Connect’s mission by processing financial information in an accurate and timely manner.
Duties & Responsibilities
Accurate and Timely Financial Reporting
- Work with Accounting, Procurement, and other departments to ensure accurate coding of invoices.
- Provide financial support to department heads and supervisors with accounting issues and queries.
- Perform monthly and yearly account closing activities and reconciliations to verify records are current, accurate, and in accordance with GAAP and in compliance with internal policies for assigned funds.
- Create and post journal entries with supporting documentation.
- Close and post batches daily.
- Remain up-to-date with program funding and reporting requirements as HUD, local government and investor requirements change.
- Track leasing levels for appropriate funds and update the appropriate managers of under or over leasing issues.
- Be able to communicate with landlords and program participants to assist with questions and resolve problems.
- Process and manage grant billings/vouchers with independent government agencies including HUD, State of Utah and Salt Lake County, among others
Maintain Proper Internal Controls
- Adhere to accounting policies and procedures.
- Follow procedures to be able to catch fraudulent activities.
Annual Financial Audit Preparation
- Reconcile and prepare proper backup for all assigned accounts for annual financial audit.
- Enter all assigned funds into Financial Data Schedule and submit annually to REAC.
- Assist with year-end audits.
- Book adjusting entries upon completion of audit.
Other Duties as Assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate Degree in Accounting, or business related field
- Minimum five years work related experience.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Good interpersonal and communicative skills.
- Knowledge of:
- GAAP, including government and fund accounting
- Computerized accounting systems.
- Strong Excel and database skills.
- Word processing.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Procedures required to reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Ability to:
- Analyze and resolve accounting problems.
- Work under time pressures and constraints.
- Be professional in manner and appearance.
- Ability to interact with vendors, program participants, and employees in a professional manner.
