Sports Director-Full Time-NW Cary and Taylor YMCA Job at YMCA triangle
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Regional Youth Sports Director, the Youth Sports Director, is responsible for leading and developing programs for NW Cary and Taylor Youth Sports and Sports Camp. He/she must run the program with safety in the forefront. He/she is responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Directs and organizes all aspects of the following programs including program quality and budget development: NW Cary and Taylor Youth Sports programs.
- Assists with the organization and operation of the NW Cary YMCA Sports Camp
- Responsible for recruitment, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff for all programs supervised.
- Maintains a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends
- Plans and organizes day-to-day operations and is present in the programs.
- Maintains all records of their assigned programs that are necessary for the operation of the department and branch.
- Responsible for volunteer development in his/her program areas.
- Maintains fiscal responsibility for all programs, manages budgets, and ensures resources are properly stewarded.
- Ensures that all programs are safe and maintain the highest safety standards at all times.
- Implements and leads Mission Moments and prayers based on Christian Mission for staff and participants and that the Christian mission is infused into all aspects of programs.
- Participates on Association IQ teams and committees as appropriate.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Actively participates on the Branch Advisory Board and interfaces with the community at large on behalf of the Poole Family YMCA and East Triangle YMCA.
- Develops and facilitates growth in volunteer development for youth and family programs.
- Assists with the YMCA Annual Campaign through development of staff team, recruiting volunteers and meeting annual fundraising goals as assigned.
- Maintains regular, clear and concise communication within area of responsibility.
- Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred and 2-5 years of related experience.
- Demonstrated experience in youth programming, program development and personnel development.
- Experienced and passionate about creating and fostering communities and relationship building through programs.
- Ability to effectively manage staff and programs.
- Exceptional oral, public speaking and written communication skills.
- Possess a high level of organization, ability to prioritize and possess the capacity to respond and handle multiple tasks appropriately in a dynamic and fast paced work environment.
- Requires a positive attitude, high level of initiative and professionalism, and enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment.
- Demonstrate initiative, effectively prioritize, and possess strong organizational, analytical and project management skills.
- Capacity to assist in the management of facilities, equipment, and programs.
- Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn and work in a variety of computer programs.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to obtain upon hire certifications in Basic Life Support, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen and Emergency Medication Administration Training. All certifications must stay current while employed with the YMCA.
- A Commercial Driver’s License, with “P” endorsement must be obtained with-in the first year of employment in order to drive a YMCA bus as needed.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Some evening and weekend work is required.
- The YMCA of the Triangle requires employees to comply with all COVID related PPE, cleaning, reporting and prevention expectations efforts. Further training and detail will be provided upon question.
