Summary
The Advanced Brain Center of Dallas is hiring licensed Speech Pathologists. The Speech Pathologist administers speech therapy to patients within TBI and MTBI rehabilitation departments. Organize and conduct prescribed physical therapy programs in an acute and post-acute care inpatient setting to restore function. Ensure patients reach their maximum performance.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Speech Therapists are responsible for the assessment of patients, assessments to determine patient’s and family’s level of functioning to implement effective treatment, and to plan appropriate discharge disposition.
- Ensures that patient has given informed consent to treatment.
- Evaluates each patient using age and diagnosis appropriate assessment tests and measurements, including appropriate outcome assessment tool(s).
- Integrates assessment results to identify functional problems and prioritizes care needs with patient and family.
- Sets appropriate, measurable, functional goals with time frames to address the identified problems including patient/family goals and preferences.
- Determines plan for care, and/or appropriate therapeutic interventions to achieve stated goals.
- Initiates therapy discharge planning in collaboration with care team and patient based on prognosis and expected discharge disposition.
- Performs treatment procedures that are within the scope of the professional license.
- Utilizes a variety of treatment techniques to achieve goals, if necessary.
- Determines patient response to treatment and evaluates progress (reassessment).
- Educates patient and family through instruction, demonstration, and/or appropriate handouts in treatment plan, safety issues, home programs/self-management and assistive equipment.
- Maintains patient safety throughout treatment. Communicates with physicians and other healthcare personnel as appropriate regarding patient care issues.
Qualifications
Education, Experience and Certification
- Bachelor/ Masters/ Doctorate/Certificate degree in Speech Language Pathology.
- Current state Speech Therapy license.
- Current CBIS and Dysphagia certification is a plus.
- Two (2) years experience as a Speech Pathologist in the hospital setting preferred.
- BLS required at time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule.
- Ability to write concise, legible documentation in patient’s medical record. Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures. Rhythm recognition, knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations. Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing. Ability to work with other members of the healthcare team to meet patient’s needs. Ability to interact in a positive manner and to communicate well with patients, families, coworkers, employees, supervisors, and other hospital employees.
