INEOS Composites is a global chemicals business with a network extending to 6 manufacturing operations in the US, 1 in Brazil, 4 in Europe, 2 in China along with offices and headquarters in Ohio, Barcelona and Shanghai. The Composites Business primary products include unsaturated polyester resins (UPRs), vinyl ester resins (VERs) and gel coats.

INEOS has an exciting opportunity for an R&D Scientist for the role of supporting and advancement of our resins for Automotive Composites. As a critical member of this team, this role will be a technical leader driving new developments, working closely with customers to address their needs and advance our understanding of the structure –property relationships that control both processing of our resins to form laminates and performance of those laminates. This role requires strong collaboration within the organization that includes regular interactions with scientists, technicians, technical service, manufacturing, sales and product management.

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, critical thinker with a commitment to the success of the business through an understanding of polymer structure-property relationships, formulation design and weathering expertise and processing methods such as SMC, BMC, pultrusion and LCM. In addition, the ideal candidate will develop into a technical leader within and external to the company effectively translating customer needs into technical ideas and ultimately into solutions to challenging technical problems. Also, the candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, experimental design methodologies and project management practices.

Key Activities Include

  • Manage and drive both short-term and long-term projects to completion which will involve technology development/ formulation modifications to meet customer application requirements
  • Collaborate across groups to help resolve customer issues, Customer and manufacturing quality issues and improve overall productivity and efficiency related to our Automotive and Advanced Composite product lines.
  • Undertake and successfully complete training and development activities
  • Provide on-the-job training for others as required
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping
  • Use appropriate PPE, lab coat, safety glasses and gloves, at all times
  • Maintain laboratory stockroom, supplies and the inventory of retained samples
  • Effectively communicate throughout the organization
  • Up to 20% travel may be required.
  • Perform other duties as required

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or engineering is preferred.
  • Must be self-motivated, well-organized, persistent, team-oriented, and adept at multi-tasking
  • Must have excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Must have effective project management skills and use of statistical experimental design practices
