Essential Functions:
This position is for a Research Assistant (RA) with Healthcare Alternative Systems (HAS). The RA will provide program evaluation support for a grant-funded project that is seeking to expand access to medication assisted treatment (MAT), primarily methadone, for HAS clients who use opioids such as heroin, fentanyl, and oxycodone.
The RA will primarily assist with collecting enrollment, interview, and tracking data for the project, which will occur at HAS offices and treatment sites where methadone will be dispensed to clients admitted to the program to receive MAT services. Under the direction of the Research Project Manager, the RA will: (1) obtain baseline, treatment discharge, and follow-up information from all MAT program admissions over the course of the project. Data will be collected via laptop using standard Government Performance and Recovery Act (GPRA) forms as required by the funding agency, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). To maintain contact with clients to assure high follow-up rates, the RA will also collect and update tracking information to help locate clients for follow-up interviews.
The RA will be required to complete all HAS orientation and SAMHSA trainings under the direction of the Research Project Manager before working independently and will be compensated for these activities.
The RA must be able to transport themselves to and from HAS offices and treatment sites and should be comfortable interacting with persons who use street drugs, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be well organized and reliable, be detail oriented, and have good time-management abilities.

Research Assistant Responsibilities:
- Administer computerized interview forms using REDCap or SurveyMonkey.
- Collect and maintain locator information for follow-up interviews and maintain contact with all HAS MAT clients interviewed at baseline.
- Pay participant stipends and maintain receipts at HAS offices.
- Complete trainings as required by HAS and SAMHSA.
- Attend project meetings on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis to discuss progress and barriers to data collection.
- Meet with the Research Project Manager as needed to facilitate evaluation activities and troubleshoot.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Project Manager.
Research Assistant Qualifications:
- Work will require traveling and will require the candidate to be onsite.
- Basic knowledge of computer keyboard.
- Bilingual/Bicultural is preferred (English/Spanish).
- Possession of valid Illinois Driver’s license and willingness to use personal vehicle in course of employment.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in social sciences or public health.
- Similar RA experience on related research projects is required (experience in research on substance use/misuse is strongly preferred).
