R&D Mechanical Engineer

The R&D (Research And Development) Mechanical Engineer, will be contributing significantly to successful project results in technology and/or product development by identifying, proposing and implementing innovative solutions within Motion NEMA Motors in Fort Smith, Arkansas. In this role, you will be using unique technical knowledge to oversee development tasks. Analyze test data and provide reports when required. Support product management sales, manufacturing, supply chain and other functional areas to meet business and project plans, including cost reduction goals.

Your responsibilities

  • Demonstrate solid competence in technologies, tools and methods for solving complex problems.
  • Design new or improved parts or assemblies, including castings and fabrications.
  • Actively seeking and implementing initiatives to improve motor designs and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Analyze the effect of design or design changes on other components.
  • Authorize part and material substitutions within specified limits.
  • Analyze motor test data. Interact with other departments or disciplines to meet design or application requirements.
  • Be an active member of a design team and Interest in becoming a technical leader.
  • Capable of utilizing FEA design programs

Your background

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree required with 0-2 years experience.
  • Solid modeling experience - required.
  • Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint - required.
  • Preferred Experience Includes - SolidWorks, AutoCAD, SAP, FEA (Finite Element Analysis),
  • Prior experience with design, analysis, or maintenance of rotating machinery is a plus.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
