The associate in this position is responsible for coordinating a continuous flow of inbound packaging materials to assure an uninterrupted supply to meet scheduled production as well as managing the inventory of those materials in a manner which optimizes cash flow and minimizes the risk of obsolescence.

What are we looking for?

  • A great amount of knowledge/experience is required to understand material relationships and the implications of material shortages, etc.
  • Must be familiar with material sources, vendor base, and material lead times, plant production schedules, and rates.
  • Associate must be knowledgeable with MRP systems.
  • Solid mathematical background
  • PC literacy (MS Office)

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Analyze daily SAP generated reports to determine packaging material inventory position and take appropriate actions necessary to ensure ongoing plant operations without material shortages.
    • Communicate with suppliers the production need for packaging. Work with SMS (supplier managed supply) vendors to facilitate production and delivery to the Waco plant.
    • Work with additional packaging vendors to maintain adequate supplies of expense items (stretch film, slipsheets, tape, glue, etc) and other items as needed (line trials, R&D work).
    • Prepare summary/position reports on packaging material inventories including period end reports. Maintain proper balance of safety stock levels to meet both customer service targets and inventory level reduction targets.
    • Manage disposition process for specification deviations for all inbound packaging materials and facilitate reject/waiver process.
    • Manage item set up and transition to minimize packaging write-offs, raw material expirations, and plant waste.
    • Work with Execution and network planners to develop an executable production plan.
    • Work with existing vendor base to automate daily order releases and streamline information flow from the MRP system for replenishment process. Become knowledge expert on EDI (electronic data interchange) for requirements and vendor base.
    • Support the MRP associate in determining root cause and continuous improvement to raws and packs inventory discrepancies.
    • Develop continuous improvement plans to improve processes and expand SMS practices for raws and packs.
    • Seek innovative solutions and develop step-function improvements in processes including the use of new technology.
    • Develop best practices and standard work instructions for the inbound role.
    • Contribute to team engagement.
    • Back up other site logistics areas as required.
