We collaborate closely with public-and private-sector partners to translate big questions into deep insights that improve programs, refine strategies, and enhance understanding using data science and analytics. Our work yields actionable information to guide decisions in wide-ranging policy areas, from health, education, early childhood, and family support to nutrition, employment, disability, and international development.

We are currently seeking Nutrition Survey Assistants to work remotely on the second Study on Nutrition and Activity in Child Care Settings (SNACS-II) for the Food and Nutrition Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture from January through June 2023. As a Nutrition Survey Assistant, you will assist childcare food and snack preparers in completing the SNACS-II Menu Survey. The Menu Survey is a self-administered, hardcopy report that spans a full week and collects detailed information about the food offered and served in childcare settings. You will also assist childcare centers with a web-based Provider Survey.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with food preparers by telephone and email to provide details about the Menu Survey, answer questions, and provide reminders and encouragement
  • Follow standardized procedures and scripts when contacting food preparers
  • Use judgment in helping food preparers resolve issues they may have in providing information
  • Track all activities and communications with food preparers
  • Contact childcare center directors to encourage completion of a web-based Provider Survey
  • Manage activities for multiple childcare centers simultaneously under deadline pressure

Position Requirements:

Job Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree preferred
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with navigating online computer programs
  • Ability to develop rapport, motivate, and maintain positive relationships with food preparers
  • Flexibility, sensitivity, and patience in working with food preparers
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills
  • Ability to work a minimum of 24 hours a week (Monday – Friday)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background, knowledge, or experience in food service or nutrition
  • Degree in nutrition, organizational studies, political science, or other-related field a plus
  • Telephone interviewing experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

All Mathematica staff must be in accordance with Executive Order 14042 and its implementing guidelines. These include, among others, providing proof of COVID-19 vaccination and wearing face coverings and other personal protective equipment as required.

This position offers an hourly rate starting at $18 with a potential for benefits and paid time off.
