DESCRIPTION OF WORK :
General Statement of Duties :
Incumbent provides support for all Media Center operations. Assists the Media Center Equipment Manager in overseeing production equipment inventory, storage, and maintenance; scheduling Media Center facilities (studios); and troubleshooting equipment problems. Helps oversee student workers. Assists with development of content for SOC webpages, especially media content. Fulfill the role of a Media Service Clerk when needed and operate the Media Center when other staff is unavailable. May work some evening or weekend hours. Coordinates activities with the Media Technology Coordinator for printer maintenance and color monitor calibration. Reports to the Director of the Media Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
Assists with inventory of School of Communications production equipment and ensures accuracy.
Opens and closes Media Center and facilities. Works weekend and evening hours without supervision.
Checks out and receives returned equipment.
Trains and supervises student workers and graduate Assistants.
Performs customer service duties such as greeting visitors, answering inquiries, screening telephone calls, and routing incoming telephone calls.
Helps keep Media Center equipment room organized and clean; may help designing special storage concepts.
Assists with equipment security procedures such as engraving equipment for security purposes and entering information in Webcheckout and the Media Center Database
Works with instructors to coordinate equipment access specific to classes and student levels.
Maintains a professional demeanor and supports same in other Media Center staff and student workers
Assists the Director or Media Center Equipment Manager with various projects
Other Duties as assigned
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities*
Ability to exercise basic human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the University community.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Knowledge of telephone etiquette

Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT
Functional/Technical Skills*
Must have some Higher Ed experience, with two years related experience in media production;bachelors degree preferred.
Must be comfortable with heights, capable of physical work, and possess a strong mechanical aptitude.
Must possess technical knowledge of film, video, photo. audio, animation, and broadcast field production equipment.
Familiarity with emerging technologies and techniques highly desired.
Must possess the ability to troubleshoot film, video, audio, animation, photography and broadcast field production equipment for malfunctions and be able to effect on the spot minor repairs or determine if equipment needs to be forwarded to in-house bench repair technician or to manufacturer for major repairs.
Supervisory experience is recommended.
Requisite Experience*
College courses or professional experience with video, audio, and digital film/photo equipment, including lights and other production equipment. Some production and editing experience preferred. Above average computer literacy

Work Environment and Physical Requirements General office and storeroom environment with large, bulky, and heavy equipment. May be required to lift and carry 50 lbs. and roll carts weighing 75lbs.Standard Schedule: There is no standard schedule - the Media Center is open 6 days a week, 8:30am to 10:00pm weekdays and Noon to 8:00pm on Saturdays. Incumbent will work some evening and weekend hours without supervision and be considered a "Keyholder."
