Job Description
United is currently seeking a Part-Time Mechanical Engineer to join our team in our Charlotte, NC office. The successful candidate will be working as part of a team of engineers and designers preparing modification packages for mechanical systems serving the nuclear power industry. This position is a Part-Time Variable (PTV) position to support emergent work activities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop design modification packages for mechanical systems at a nuclear power plant.
- Perform engineering calculations such as hydraulic analysis, equipment sizing, and pressure loss.
- Develop mechanical design and procurement specifications.
- Prepare engineering drawings such as Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID), General Arrangement (GA), Equipment Plan, Piping Orthographic and Isometric drawings.
- Develop material and workhour estimates as well as engineering and design schedules.
- Exercise sound engineering judgment in assessing problem situations or complex issues, review completed work to ensure accuracy and compliance with codes and design criteria.
- Interface with plant stakeholders to determine project scope/requirements, support construction/implementation and start up activities as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university
- Five (5) years of industry experience in the mechanical engineering field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Duke Energy Nuclear experience
- Three (3) years of experience with mechanical systems associated with the nuclear power industry.
- Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering preferred
- Licensed professional engineer (PE) preferred.
- Able to obtain un-escorted access to a Nuclear Power Plant.
