We are looking for a Licensed Customs Broker / Import Manager for our U.S. Headquarter located in Romulus, Michigan, to provide leadership and operational support for the Import Operations Department. The right person for the job is highly qualified, conscientious, and finds a sense of purpose and pride in their work. Great organizational skills, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are a must. The position requires strong math skills and solid knowledge of domestic and international geography. You will need to manage multiple team members located in the Romulus office (some working remotely now or from time to time due to COVID). You will need to manage your own work efficiently, work well under pressure and be able to meet deadlines in a time sensitive environment, along with the discretion to work with confidential documents and information. Candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Candidate must be able to manage difficult conversations and help foster a strong communication environment not only within the team as well as internal and external customers.
Overtime work and some travel may be required at times depending on client development, workload and staffing.
Requirements
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Minimum of 3 years management experience in the Freight Forwarding and Customhouse Broker industry.
· Prepare and submit all import documents in accordance with U.S. Customs Border and Protection regulations
· Prepare and process all documentation in compliance with C-TPAT and Company Procedures
· Coordinate the movement of freight with Overseas Agents, Customers, Steamship lines, Airlines, Truckers, and Co-loaders
· Negotiate rates with agents and carriers.
- Assist in the preparation of Request for Quote (RFQ) as required by certain customers or new business opportunities.
- Conduct annual personnel reviews for import team members.
- Work closely with the President, Managing Director, Regional Operation Manager, and local team to ensure strategic objectives are clearly understood and cascaded to the rest of the team as appropriate.
- Conduct meetings with team as well as agents and auditing of files to ensure any challenges are being addressed and solved in a timely manner and compliance is being followed on all levels.
- Become SME with internal reporting tools and other technology as appropriate.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
- General supervision of team members handling of all Import shipments (air and ocean) to ensure all tasks are being completed correctly and on-time.
- Assist and step in on actual workloads for team members when needed
- Some USA travel to offices on required basis
Team members are typically completing the following tasks:
- Coordinate with client, shipper, booking agent and all carriers for the smooth process on the shipment to avoid and prevent any problems from arising.
- Understanding the quoting requirements and regulations on air, ocean or domestic freight moves to ensure proper profitability and compliance.
- Complete process of shipment which includes choosing routing, quoting, booking, Open files, AMS & ISF filing, CBP Entry filing, document review and data quality requirement. Strong communication with clients end to end business and involved parties. Tracking freight via email, phone, and internet to ensure on-time arrival and delivery. Updating information in our GTRAC system for the clients including uploading related documentation and billing. Updating client profiles and process milestones. Last mile & delivery to client. Book, review and audit payables and Profit and Loss on the file to ensure accuracy as it relates to the shipment.
- Customer Service responsibilities include maintaining communication with clients, vendor, shipper, and all involved carriers throughout the process and choosing the appropriate routing that meets the clients need and rates quoted.
- Generate, maintain, and manage reports designed to provide analytical support to specified users or clients. Provide administrative support to other staff members as needed.
- Strong communication and organization skills and ability to manage high volume of emails with accuracy.
Preferred Candidate will possess some or all the following criteria:
· Licensed Customhouse Broker (This is a must)
· 3 years management experience
· Strong communication and organizational skills (This is a must)
· Strong Microsoft office skills (including O365, SharePoint, Excel and PowerPoint)
· Four-year college degree
· Certified Customs Specialist (CCS Certification)
· Foreign Language
