Working in Trading & Origination

Trading & Origination is Statkraft’s central commercial unit for proprietary trading of standard and origination of non-standard energy related products and assumes the role of a market integrator for third party renewable and flexible assets encompassing the supply of power and green solutions to customers in Europe and in the US.

The Role

The Junior Quant Analyst role will be based in Stamford CT for the proprietary trading side of US Power and Natural Gas. As a part of the proprietary trading business, you will use your skills to understand the micro-structure of the power, natural gas and other energy related markets in North America. The tasks would include but not limited to scraping, storing and cleaning involved datasets and use legacy statistical methods and/or machine learning techniques to help trading decisions with direct impact on Profit and Loss of the desk.

While understanding of financial markets and commodities is a plus, we are looking for an analytically proficient, diligent and an appetite to learn and excel in a fast paced environment. We are a start-up desk in a larger company and have best of both the worlds and you will be learning from veterans in the industry with a high impact potential.

Job Description
  • Working with and adding to a data lake of timeseries with sub-hourly frequencies, textual data etc for the various Independent Service Operators in North America.
  • Comfortable in writing legible, scalable and clean code (preferable in Python) in a multi-developer coding platform to automate tasks as well as build analytics.
  • Being able to use cutting edge quantitative techniques to help in developing trading strategies.
  • Work with established traders and quants to help build a state of the art platform to trade Energy Commodities.
  • Willing to roll up your sleeves on effecting the smooth operations of the desk as well has be comfortable wearing many hats.

Qualifications
  • Deep understanding of undergrad level mathematical concepts such as Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics.
  • Strong coding background preferably in Python
  • Undergrad degree in a scientific discipline (any engineering, computer science, physics, math, chemistry majors etc).
  • Combination of independent thinker and a team player with a high level of personal integrity
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced team environment
