Typical Duties of the Genetic Data Specialist include:

• Collaborate with internal and external customers to execute a timely research plan that is within budget
• Assist in the collection of data as designated in study protocols
• Testing, validation, and maintenance to all data collection equipment on a daily basis
• Enter data into Excel in a timely and accurate manner
• Storage of data into the proper file storage web application
• Train employees on work instructions/new protocols for relevant research studies
• Assist in daily site logistics
• Utilize internal Performance Management tools to set goals for personal development
• Execute Quality Management System procedures pertaining to research
• Ensure all practices are consistent with commonly accepted animal well-being standards, safe-guard the environment and ensure regulatory compliance

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Minimum of a high school diploma or GED

Associates Degree Preferred

Experience

No previous experience required, but an internship or experience of at least 1 year in swine production or research is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

• Microsoft Office
• Scientific research methods and standards
• Data collection methodology
• Animal biology with emphasis on production management practices used for swine

Skill in:

• Clear and concise verbal and written communication
• Research protocol execution
• Budget and time management
• Swine/animal husbandry
• Critical thinking and informed decision making

Ability to:

• Learn The Maschhoffs and the company core values
• Learn and understand protocols for the CTH and data collection processes
• Collect data by speaking a sequence of numbers into a voice recorder for approximately 2 hours straight
• Write in legible hand writing at a relatively quick pace
• Pay attention to detail
• Understand that the position will be working in a pork processing plant
• Gain PQA and TQA certification and specific job training
• Work weekends as needed
• Work both independently and in a team environment to accomplish goals
• Maintain confidentiality
• Execute research protocols according to the Maschhoffs Genetics and R&D quality standards
• Work on hard floors, stand for extended periods of time, and lift at least 50 lbs.
