The Service Line Director for Orthopedics establishes effective strategies for programs, products, services, and physician integration with the goal of increasing growth, efficiency, quality, patient safety and patient experience and physician alignment. The role encompasses budget planning and management (capital and operational) strategic planning, compliance, scheduling, appropriate staffing, and performance improvement.Baptist Health is hiring a Director, Orthopedic Service Line. This is a full-time, in-person opportunity located on the downtown Jacksonville campus.
Job Summary:
This leader will work collaboratively with hospital administration and department operators to execute on the goals and strategies of orthopedics under the direction of executive leadership, dedicated senior VP and Physician Leadership teams. The position will also work closely with departments across the system to identify opportunities to standardize and advance orthopedic care. The director acts as the primary service line point of contact with physician leaders fostering strong physician and peer leader relationships, and in collaboration with practice management works to insure optimal clinical operations, including ready- access, streamlined scheduling and hours of operation are maximized at each site to provide a high-quality patient experience along the care continuum.A strong clinical understanding of orthopedic subject matter, practice management and all aspects of hospital-based procedures and testing is necessary. The ability to design and align resources to support the service line initiatives, program development, developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external referral sources are keys to success. Advancing the service line, consistent with organizational mission and vision, to a status of a program or center of excellence to best serve the northeast Florida community and the greater southeastern region of the United States is critical. The service line director will have shared accountability with operational counterparts in the areas of, • Quality measures• Service (patient and consumer experience) as measured from CAHPS surveys and net promoter scores• Growth rate of service line as measured by volume, revenue, new patients and Share of Care capture• Stewardship as measured by improving margin and cost per unit of serviceThe service line director will act as a key advisor to operational counterparts and executive decision makers in the areas of, • Capital equipment• Facilities• Process management• Reimbursement and payer strategy• Compliance• Information technology (platform, integration, work flow)The service line director will have authority for the specific service line in the areas of, • Annual business plan• New program development• Marketing plan• Physician relationships (excluding contractual)Responsibilities + Partner with physicians, promoting a team approach to strategic planning and the development of a full continuum specialty program.+ Maintain knowledge of and compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, policies procedures and standards.+ Collaborate and create partnerships across health system to ensure business strategies, goals, and objectives are met.+ Design, develop and implement operational plans to meet organizational strategic pillar metrics including financial, employee and physician engagement, quality metrics and performance improvement initiatives as well as patient experience.+ Ensure effective physician partnerships internally and externally for orthopedics + Accountable for financial performance of the orthopedic service line + Prepare and implement, with the input from physician partners and health system leadership, the business plans that help achieve performance dimension goals for the Service Line.+ Develop and implement new programs, in collaboration with other health system leadership and the physician partners+ Coordinate system wide the strategy and planning for orthopedic related services and develop integrated programs for the system.+ Maintain knowledge of best practices across the industry, monitor evolution of technology, and continuously evaluate emerging opportunities and threats within the market.+ Act upon opportunities to further expand capabilities, improve the overall quality and improve the overall coordination of orthopedic service line.+ Articulate the vision and contribute to service line strategy, focusing on growth, contribution margin, costs, clinical quality, technology, service quality, and physician alignment.+ Assist in driving the system-wide effort to increase aggregate volumes and related procedures and increase market share in its primary and secondary market in a cost effective and profitable manner, including support of active and future physician recruitment.+ Create a seamless, highly responsive orthopedic service line where the focus is on outstanding quality outcomes and the highest level of services to all customers/ constituencies.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:• Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Management, Nursing, Allied Health, or related field required; Master’s Degree in healthcare management or business-related field achieved or in-process strongly preferred.• Three to five years related leadership experience, preferably with service line responsibility, healthcare operations and/or practice management.Success Factors:• High-level interaction with physicians and practice administration• Ability to use financial tools (budgets, forecasts, and ROI analysis) to measure, manage and communicate business performance to physician and leadership constituents.• Strong fiscal acumen demonstrated by development of business plans and return on investment (ROI) analysis reflecting capital acquisition planning.• Familiarity with national quality measures for service line and related regulatory requirements.• Ability to establish collaborative and productive working relationships with physicians, clinical and administrative leadership.• Experience developing and implementing strategic plans.• Demonstrated ability to lead complex organizations through change.• Demonstrated ability to use process improvement techniques to achieve operational results.• Effective communication skills to encourage open discussion and orchestrate win-win solutions.• Background in Lean Management. Self-sufficient in project development management and delivery.• Results-oriented work philosophy. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, organize and integrate organization priorities and deadlines, and meet goalsRequired Minimum Skills:• Excellent physician relations skills• Strong communication skills written, verbal, and interpersonal• A superior degree of professionalism and diplomacy, and capacity to build consensus • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills as well as excellent customer service• Ability to collect, analyze and apply data and other pertinent information to develop short- and long-term goals and budget• Work closely with others: physicians, other hospital leaders, fellow service line leaders, and administration to establish and meet short- and long-term strategic• Understand fundamental principles of financial analysis, strategic planning, operations, human resources, and information• Demonstrate strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop leaders and team members, collaborate with physicians, and maintain positive patient interactions.• Proactive approach to the search and identification of opportunities to enhance practice services• Work product is high quality, detailed and organized.Required Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or allied health related field is required. Master’s in Health Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or health related field is required.Required Minimum Experience: 5 years plus as an administrative leader in orthopedic inpatient, procedural/surgical, ambulatory or practice management areas.Preferred Minimum Certification: Certification or fellowship in a professional healthcare organization preferred.
