The Custodian will performwork to keep buildings and grounds clean and neat in a safe and sanitary condition including the cleaning of vacant public housing units, interior of buildings, and grounds. This is work of a routine nature often requiring considerable physical strength and endurance.

The work location may vary as needed and snow removal is mandatory.

Primary Responsibilities

· Receives oral or written direction from the Director of Maintenance or designee and proceeds according to instructions.

· Completes work orders neatly and accurately and turns in completed work orders daily.

· Responsible for operating and maintaining in a safe, knowledgeable manner, all related tools and equipment.

· Performs dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, windows, stairwells, furniture, equipment, appliances, and trash removal.

· Assists in moving heavy objects, including, but not limited to, appliances, televisions, office equipment, rugs, mattresses/box springs, and furniture.

· Performs services to clean all areas, including conference rooms, lounges, bathrooms, hallways, stairwells, entryways, elevators, private offices, community centers, grounds, trash rooms, trach/recycling barrels, and all other areas as assigned.

· Empties trash and recycling receptacles located inside and outside buildings and places refuse in bins and dumpsters, cleans and disinfect restrooms, including the fixtures, restocks paper products and soap dispensers, and remove used products, cleans furniture, and polishing, if required. Replaces light bulbs as needed.

· Dry mops, wet mops, vacuums floors, dusts, spot cleans walls and doors, cleans and disinfects drinking fountains, cleans interior windows and interior/exterior doorways, windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces.

· Strips, washes, waxes, and buffs flooring using heavy floor buffers and floor scrapers and accomplishes work in an efficient manner.

· Cleans vacant apartments by washing walls, ceilings, windows, floors, windowsills, door frames, stairs, kitchen cabinets, lavatories, and appliances.

· Cleans up water and debris due to leaks and floods with mops and wet pick-up vacuums.

· Secures areas as required, such as entrance, office and community room doors.

· Restocks items as directed.
