Job Summary:
This is non-technical work involving the routine care of patients and the performance of nursing services for patients. The Certified Nurse Assistant is subject to general and direct supervision concerned with ADL care of the patients, under the direct supervision of the LPN in charge of the patient and the RN in charge of the unit.
Responsibilities:
- Assists in walking, feeding, transferring, and bathing patients, caring for their personal needs.
- Assists in lifting and positioning, applying and releasing restraints, bed making, use of adaptive equipment, takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure.
- Gives general facility information to visitors in accordance with instructions from the nurse in charge.
- Collects and delivers specimens for various diagnostic purposes.
- Assembles information concerning the patient’s condition and enters reports on the patient’s record.
- Cleans and sterilizes hospital equipment, care of colostomies and ileostomies, measuring of intake/output, height and weight.
- Recognizes and reports signs and symptoms of illness.
- Care of the dying patient, including care of body and personal effects after death.
- Recognizes and reports instances of patient abuse, mistreatment, and neglect.
- Stores patient’s clothes and turns over valuables to person designated by hospital.
- May assist with care and moving of room furniture, fixtures, and supplies to help keep patients safe and comfortable.
- Participates in care planning, carries out patient’s nursing plan of care and communicates patient’s response to treatment to nurse in charge.
- Is cognizant of and respects patient’s rights at all times; communicates concerns regarding patient’s rights to nurse in charge.
- Incumbent may provide care and/or treatment to infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients as assigned.

Qualifications: Nursing Assistant Certification awarded by a NY State approved program.
