JOB SUMMARY

Guest Services Representatives are the front line of service for Clark Planetarium and are essential to creating a positive and memorable experience for all planetarium guests. As the friendly "face" of the planetarium, their primary function is to provide a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere for our guests and contribute to the shared responsibility of maintaining a safe environment. They support the delivery of Clark Planetarium's educational mission through efficient and conscientious facilitation of retail, exhibit, and theater experiences, as well as helping to keep guest areas clean and presentable. The duties for a Guest Services Representative include the following:

  • Experience Guide
    • Welcome visitors as they enter the building and assist with wayfinding and traffic flow, including the locations of bathrooms and water fountains, directions to the theaters, etc. Provide a positive experience through prompt, pleasant, and courteous service.
    • Engage guests throughout the planetarium and make yourself available to answer questions and inquiries about the shows and exhibits we offer, current events in the building, membership plans, Planetarium procedures and policies, possible ADA accommodations, and basic Astronomy.
    • Be approachable and friendly while sharing the excitement of Astronomy with guests.
    • Assist if problems arise, helping guests to deal with everything from health concerns and lost parents, to disagreements and miscommunicated expectations.
    • Help keep the guest areas clean, assisting the custodial staff to pick up trash and wipe down surfaces. Quickly report any major issues to the custodial and facilities staff.
  • Retail
    • Sell tickets to Dome and IMAX shows, Planet Fun Science Store merchandise, and Satellite Snacks concessions to guests.
    • Let guests know about the value of our membership plan and be ready to answer questions.
    • Follow proper procedures and policies, and maintain food handler permit.
    • Be able to answer questions about merchandise, specifically the types of telescopes and how they work.
  • Theater Usher
    • Assist guests into both the Dome and IMAX Theatres, verifying and taking tickets, handing out IMAX 3D glasses, and guiding guests to their seats if needed.
    • Assist in cleaning of theaters between shows, including sanitizing IMAX 3D glasses.
  • School and Rental Group Guide
    • Be knowledgeable about what groups are using the building and what their schedules are.
    • Be friendly and knowledgeable in greeting groups, guiding them through the building, and answering their questions.
TEMPORARY POSITIONS:
An "At Will", FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.

  • Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
  • Are not considered merit employees.
  • Are "at will" employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.
